Why Yoga works for children…

What is happening to our Nervous System.

Sadly many children are experiencing negative feelings towards themselves. Often not feeling comfortable in their own body, this can become overwhelming especially with no outlet.

Our children are bombarded with stimulation from a magnitude of platforms again this over stimulation can become overwhelming for a developing brain and nervous system.

When children feel overwhelmed they move into a flight, fight or freeze (FFF) state. This is where the body moves into survival mode, a highly stressed state. In this survival mode the body is fully focused on surviving, therefore, cannot be present in the moment. Sadly the FFF stress response can be activated by a text, video game, social media and not often an actual threat.

When we start to repeatedly enter this survival mode the body and mind become depleted. This shows up as poor concentration, not being present, anxiety, digestive issues, trouble sleeping, tantrums and generally feeling out of your own body.

Yoga as an outlet.

Yoga offers a way back into your body. Simple breathing techniques bring us back into the present moment and out of FFF. Restorative poses restore the body and the nervous system. Stretching and opening the body takes it out of FFF and moves us into the rest and digest phase of the nervous system where the body can heal, develop and feel SAFE.

By learning about our body we are able to feel a sense of who we are and how incredible our body is, there is a much greater push to take care of ourselves. Treat our body with love and respect

Yoga empowers us to feel strong, safe, grounded and able to flourish to our full potential.
